Gary P. Nunn was designated Official Ambassador to the World by two Texas Governors in 1985 and again in 2007 who proposed that the song "London Homesick Blues" a.k.a. "Home with the Armadillo" become the Official State Song of Texas! The tune, written while stranded and broke in London in 1973, and recorded "live" at Luckenbach, TX., first appeared on "Viva Terlingua" the million selling LP by Jerry Jeff Walker that was described as the "quintessential progressive country record" by Time magazine. In 1984, this song was chosen by Austin City Limits as its theme song and introduced the program across America until 2004. It has become a classic and has entered into the Texas folklore along with "San Antonio Rose," "The Yellow Rose of Texas" and "Waltz Across Texas," according to the Texas Book of Lists.

The list of Texas standards goes on with the recording of, "What I Like About Texas," one of Gary P. Nunn finest compositions, commissioned originally by the Lone Star Brewery for an advertising campaign, has become the song that has gained the most popularity worldwide.

Gary P. Nunn's Greatest Hits enjoys a near folk status in Texas as he sings the praises of the state, its culture, and its colorful characters. His fans come from all walks of life and range from small children who know the words to every song; to college students who have given up hard rock for the Texas two-step; to professionals who have never set foot in a honky-tonk; to octogenarian couples who still snuggle on the dance floor. Gary P. Nunn has the unique ability to appeal to all. All the recordings are lively, danceable, and image provoking. They are often humorous and always entertaining. Gary P. Nunn has been described as everything from "a pioneer of Texas country music" to "a part of the fabric of contemporary Texas culture" to "the mule that pulls the Texas country music wagon!" However, one chooses to describe him, there is no denying his contribution in the past and that he will be at the head of the herd in Texas music in the future.
